[edit]Hi there! You've been pretty active in the talk page for 2023 U.S. Senate sex tape scandal, and raised several points relating to the article's notability. For that reason, I wanted to let you know, if you hadn't already seen that the article has been AfD'ed here, in case you continue to have thoughts on the matter. Questions from a newbie
[edit]Hi! I'm learning the ropes, and had a question or two, if you have the time. (If not, I'll ask at the TeaHouse or peruse the help pages, etc.)
- You recently did some editing on the page Matooskie, mostly adding Language tagging. I did read the Template page, and found most of my questions answered (why, when, where not); but I'm still confused about: language tags don't seem to be used in Page Titles, right? such as Marriage à la façon du pays. So, also, they shouldn't be used in wiki page links? like in the "See also" link on Matooskie? (I added the link, previous to your edits, then added piped text with "italics" only around à la façon du pays, which is what was done for the page title of Marriage à la façon du pays.) Does that make sense?
- You also added a wikilink to a name that currently doesn't have a page: Catherine Aitken Turner under the section First marriage. Not a quibble, but why? Is it just good practice to add a link? (Like a polite nudge for someone to take the time to look further?)
Thanks for your help, if you have the time: I'd appreciate the advice from a human. No rush. Hope you are well. Yogabear2020 (talk) 22:10, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hey, thanks for asking.
- We can't put language tags on article titles themselves, but we can change display titles to include language tagging. Both for display titles and for within links, we need to suppress the automatic categorisation by adding
|nocat=y
into the template call. I added a display title on Marriage à la façon du pays in this edit. For links, that would look like[[Marriage à la façon du pays|Marriage {{lang|fr|à la façon du pays|nocat=y}}]]
, which would output: Marriage à la façon du pays. Otherwise, when the template adds the category Category:Articles containing French-language text, it can break the link (but I can't demonstrate that on a User talk: page, because it only adds the category in the main namespace). - To be honest, though, I was just being lazy. I could have added the language tagging to the link, but I couldn't be bothered to do the extra work 😳
- The red links question is much easier to answer; it's pretty much exactly as you said. There's an essay at Wikipedia:Red link with a summary at the top:
Red links are for subjects that should have articles but do not. They are not only acceptable, but needed in articles. They serve as a clear indication of which articles are in need of creation, and encourage it. Only remove red links if you are certain that Wikipedia should not have an article on that subject.
- Hope that helps? — OwenBlacker (he/him; Talk) 23:12, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Really helpful, thanks a lot. I often don't even know what I don't know, like the term "red link". I'll have to review language tags more, but your answer was super clear. (And thanks for the "honesty" re: laziness. Glad to know I'm not alone!) Yogabear2020 (talk) 16:19, 5 March 2024 (UTC)

Request to write content about LGBT Syrian writer
[edit]Dear Owen,
My name is Juan delGado; I am the co-founder of qisetna, a London-based volunteer-led organisation which started in 2013 with the main purpose of documenting and supporting Syrians who fled their homeland. We have been contacting with Syrians displaced across the world and our editorial team keeps writing content to keep their cultural and artistic heritage alive. We are currently in touch with the queer writer Khaled Alesmael, who was granted asylum in Sweden after leaving Syria in 2012. He has written a book Selamlik which has recently been published in English and we would like to write a profile about him as part of the LGBT Wikipedia group. I will be delighted to talk to you and welcome your help in creating this content.

Civility – a reminder
[edit]Civility is a Wikipedia policy WP:CIV. The page starts:Civility is part of Wikipedia's code of conduct and one of its five pillars. Stated simply, editors should always treat each other with consideration and respect. They should focus on improving the encyclopedia while maintaining a pleasant editing environment by behaving politely, calmly and reasonably, even during heated debates.
Wikipedia's civility expectations apply to all editors during all interactions on Wikipedia, including discussions at user and article talk pages, in edit summaries, and in any other discussion with or about fellow Wikipedians.
You are aware that gensex is a contentious topic, both in the real world, and by Wikipedia’s definitions. Accusing me of ‘sophistry’ was without justification, and does not encourage a pleasant editing environment
